ENGL 104B:  

British Literature from 1900 to present

Meets on: MWF 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM EMBAR HALL
Prerequisites: Writing 2, 50, or 109; English 10; or upper-division standing  
Satisfies a GE area G and a Writing requirement

The course examines British Literature of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as manifestations of a fundamental change in concepts of the self, consciousness, politics, society, and art. We will read works by Joyce, Eliot, Woolf, Yeats, Auden, the War Poets, Beckett, Hughes, and Lessing, among others. We will learn how writers of the Modern era responded to the profound alienation and disillusionment of World War I, and the fundamental restructuring of politics and economic life after World War II.
