"Lulled into somnolence by five hundred years of print, literary studies have been slow to wake up to the importance of MSA (media-specific analysis). Literary criticism and theory are shot through with unrecognized assumptions specific to print. Only now, as the new medium of electronic textuality vibrantly asserts its presence, are these assumptions clearly coming into view." --N. Katherine Hayles, _Writing Machines_

B.A. English with Distinction, B.A. Communication with Honors, University of California Santa Barbara

Areas of Interest

I have an interest in twentieth and twenty-first century critical theory, cultural studies, and global literature with a more focused interest in the intersection of literature and contemporary cultural phenomena. My research focuses on those literary texts that inform an analysis of or directly engage with the post-9/11, post-PATRIOT Act “culture of fear,” the climate of paranoia that has arguably resulted in some of the most provocative research topics of the current decade, including the discourses on torture, preemptive and protracted warfare, alterity, risk, and neo-imperialism. Other interests include new media, electronic literatures, and the digital humanities.
