Candace Waid is an Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her central interests include American literature and culture; gender studies; African-American literature; southern literature; and regional literature. She is the author of Edith Wharton's Letters from the Underworld: Fictions of Women and Writing (University of North Carolina Press, 1991), as well as articles on Wharton, Faulkner, and Welty. Professor Waid is currently at work on a book on Faulkner and Welty, as well as Blood Union: Conjuring the Conjugal and other Arts in Southern Literature.
