TA Development Programs

UCSB TA Development Program
A deep site by UCSB's Department of Instructional Consultation. Includes important dates (for orientation and TA institutes) as well as teaching tips, details about how to have your class video-taped, tips for international TAs, and information about the UCSB Certificate in College and University Teaching (CCUT).

Instructional Development's TA Handbook If you don't have time to explore IC's TA site, go here first. This is an extremely competent and comprehensive resource with statements on contractual conditions of TA employment, your status as a union member, how to run a discussion section, the promotion of academic honesty. This page is an indispensable resource!

Pedagogical Resources

UCSB English Department Knowledge Base/Voice of the Shuttle Teaching Resources Extensive link library; annotated. Categories include: General Teaching Resources, Media Literacy Project, Technology of Teaching, Syllabus Archive, Journals, and Conferences.

Barbara Gross Davis's Tools for Good Teaching. A compendium of classroom-tested strategies and suggestions designed to improve the teaching practices of all college instructors, including beginning, mid-career, and senior faculty members. The book describes 49 teaching tools that cover both traditional practical tasks--writing a course syllabus, delivering an effective lecture--as well as newer, broader concerns such as responding to diversity on campus and coping with budget constraints. This is not a site developed with TAs in mind, but very helpful nonetheless.
