Writing Opportunities
UCSB Undergraduate Publications
The best way for English majors to gain exposure for their own writing and to become acquainted with the world of publishing is to become involved in one of the numerous undergraduate publications here at UCSB. See the list below and contact individual publications for submission guidelines.
 
Literary publications
Academic Journals
The Catalyst
The literary publication for and by English majors. Features orginal poetry and short fiction. Please see Ann Wainwright to contact the current year's editorial staff.
Into the Teeth of the Wind
The College of Creative Studies host this poetry review that accepts submissions from all over campus and all over the world.
 
News and Editorials
The Nexus
UCSB's daily newspaper featuring campus and local news reported by the Nexus student staff.
Campus Point
The voice of the Associated Student Body.
Focus
A nationally recognized undergraduate film journal hosted by the Film Studies department that accepts submissions focusing on critical studies in media culture from all UCSB departments.
Discovery
Publishes original undergraduate research or writing considered worth publishing by a recommending faculty. Examples of publishable work include research papers, critical essays, and expanded term papers. Creative writing will generally not qualifiy. The Discovery Information Office is located South Hall, room 6607
 
Local Publications
The Independent
Santa Barbara's weekly paper for local news and entertainment.
