The English Department’s primary Honors opportunities exist within two interrelated honors programs.

  • The Department Honors Program provides the opportunity for qualified majors to undertake advanced individual literary research projects and endeavor to complete a Senior Honors Thesis. Successful performance in the Program and completion of the project leads to graduation “With Distinction in the Major.” This program is especially recommended for students who plan to pursue a graduate degree in literary studies.
  • The Arnhold Undergraduate Research Fellows Program is a two-year program designed to aid and encourage English majors who want to conduct research beyond the level of ordinary course assignments. Arnhold Fellows participate in colloquiums, present their research to the department at the year-end Research Showcase, and edit the Arnhold Fellows’ journal, Emergence.
