This course will focus on reading and writing flash fiction and other short forms of fiction with attention to close reading, slow writing, word choice, and narrative imagery. This is a workshop-centered class with discussions generated by the methods and materials needed to write shorter complete works that have high aesthetic and symbolic impact. This course offers opportunities for peer-critique, revisions, and creating a collaborative nonlinear story in Twine. Final portfolios will be a “nano-novel” or other compilation. Students will submit one polished piece to outside contests or publications.
