This literature and performance studies class focuses on the relationship between literature, notions of social performance and performativity, and cultural and performance analysis. This course is an examination of the poetry, prose, filmic and theatrical performances of African American writers from the turn-of-the-20th century. Primary sources include Dunbar, Du Bois, Toomer, Bonner, Larsen, and Hurston.
