This graduate seminar focuses on comparative assessments of the ever-expanding archive of Latina/o/x literary and cultural production, with particular attention to ideology, that is , imagined and real relationships to hegemony. Works range across form and genre, from fiction, testimonio, poetry, and film, to myriad vernacular productions. Alongside explications of form vis-a-vis ideology, we also will map the constructions and reconstructions of various models of Latinidad across time and place. In mapping the interstices, extremities, and all around dissensus, we will simultaneously be considering broader epistemic and ontological questions related to art, culture, politics, and subjectivity.
