The UCSB Office of the Registrar maintains and updates an institution-wide Academic Calendar for each school year, which students can consult for the exact dates of all quarterly deadlines including registration, fee payment, petitions, and others. The DGS, Staff Graduate Advisor, and others will often notify students, via email, about departmental events and important deadlines such as exam sign-up and filing dates. Nevertheless, it is ultimately the student’s own responsibility to be proactive regarding all institutional deadlines that may affect their time-to-degree or registration status.

Quarterly deadlines*:

*these are set by Graduate Division and the Office of the Registrar, and therefore subject to change

Change grading option (letter grade or P/NP): Last day of instruction
Dropping a course: Last day of instruction
Incomplete petitions (or extensions of incompletes): Last day of final exams
Leaves of Absence (see Sec 13): Petition must be filed before the quarter begins
Registration: Must be completed during online appointment times, published on GOLD. A non-refundable $50 late fee will be assessed for late registration; at the end of the first week of classes, a student who still hasn’t registered will lapse registration status.
